The Bay of Plenty branch wishes to advise members of the passing of a valued colleague from our region. Michael O’Brien began his New Zealand career in Wellington at Beca in 2000. Michael moved to Connell Wagner in Tauranga in 2002 before joining Tonkin & Taylor in 2007. Michael’s connections throughout the Bay of Plenty region remained strong as he opened his own geotechnical business O’Brien Geotech in 2012, through which he continued to practice until his untimely passing. Michael was a well respected geotechnical engineer who had significant experience and was involved in numerous projects in the region. The local geotechnical community will miss his sense of humour, support for our discipline and enthusiasm for all things geotech.
